Anjelina POTIN
I am a marine biologist with a particular interest in algal chronobiology and ecology. My work lies at the interface of molecular biology, chronobiology, and physiology, with a focus on understanding how environmental cues shape biological rhythms in marine algae.
I graduated in 2023 from the International Master of Science in Marine Biological Resources (IMBRSea), coordinated by Ghent University (Belgium). During my master’s training, I specialized in applied marine ecology at the Polytechnic University of Ancona (Italy) and in coastal marine ecosystems at Sorbonne Université in Banyuls-sur-Mer (France). I completed my degree with a Master’s thesis in population genetics of the red alga Gelidium corneum across its biogeographical range, carried out in the Laboratory of Biogeography, Ecology and Evolution at CCMAR in Faro (Portugal).
Since 2023, I have been pursuing a PhD on the circasemilunar reproductive clock of Dictyota dichotoma in the TIDALG group at the station biologique de Roscoff. I study the environmental factors entraining these rhythms, particularly the role of tidal fluctuations, by combining fieldwork with physiological assays on wild populations. A second part of my work focuses on identifying lunar clock genes through transcriptomic and molecular approaches.
I am also involved in the development of high-throughput phenotyping methods for precise, long-term monitoring of biological rhythms. This includes building and maintaining data-acquisition systems using Raspberry Pi–based imaging, automated data pipelines and image analysis. My research integrates laboratory, field, and bioinformatics to better understand biological timings in marine brown macroalgae.
