Overview
The Roscoff Biological Station (Station Biologique de Roscoff) is under joint authority of Sorbonne University and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS). It is structured around a research federation which includes support and research services and two Mixed Research Units (UMRs) that form the core of its scientific activities

Governance Bodies
- Executive Team of FR2424
This team coordinates and drives the scientific policy of the Station.
- Directoire
Composed of the directors of all research units at the SBR and/or their representatives (deputy directors), along with the Administrative Manager. It acts as an advisory body to the Station’s leadership.
Councils
- Station Council
A decision-making body that sets the strategic direction of the SBR. It includes representatives from Sorbonne University and CNRS, as well as external members and internally elected representatives.
- Federation Council
Comprised of internal members of the Station. This council has a consultative role regarding the internal organization and functioning of the research federation, and reviews issues related to budget, human resources, education and training, health & safety, construction works, organization, and operations.
- Scientific and Technical Council (CST)
Chaired by the Director, it includes representatives of the research teams and heads of services in FR2424. The CST examines scientific strategies and makes decisions regarding funding (e.g., doctoral fellowships, post-doctoral contracts, equipment grants), resources, mobility, and personnel recruitment.
- Research Unit Councils
Each research unit (UMR 8227 and UMR 7144), as well as the associated OSU STAMAR, has its own council that defines scientific orientations and provides advice on the implementation of research.
- Teaching Council
Chaired by a faculty-researcher, it includes elected teaching faculty from the units and the head of the education service. Its role is to address teaching matters and curricula.
Committees
Local Health & Safety Committee
This committee includes health & safety correspondents, elected representatives from the four units, the regional prevention and safety officer, an occupational doctor, and unit directors or their representatives.- Training Correspondents
Training correspondents act as liaisons between staff and continuing education services of the CNRS and Sorbonne University, the doctoral schools, and other partners. They help staff identify training needs and organize local training sessions.
