GENOMER - Genomics core facility
The Genomer platform offers sequencing project's execution and support. It is open to the scientific community of the French and foreign university laboratories. The services are provided within the framework of the EMBRC-France infrastructure.
Our Missions
The Genomer Platform’s mission is to support the scientific community by offering:
- Comprehensive support services for the execution of genomic research projects (Genomics Project Management – CPG).
- Access to high-performance equipments, along with user guidance and training (Equipment Access – MAD).
Examples of Applications:
- Identification of bacteria in symbiosis with frenulates (species of marine worms) in two areas of the Barents Sea: 16S DNA samples, bacterial genomes.
- Characterization of viral populations in the oyster Crassostrea : viral genomes.
- Characterization of bacterial genomes associated with Ectocarpus and Laminaria : bacterial genomes.
- Analysis of the bacterial community associated with the tissues of the brown alga Laminaria hyperborea during degradation : 16S DNA samples.
- ALGOLIFE Project / Study of the gut microbiota of broiler chickens following administration of an algae-based additive : 16S DNA samples.
Networks & research infrastructures
Certification and Quality Approach
Genomer has been IBISA-certified since April 2012.
The platform complies with the requirements of the ISO 9001:2008 standard.
Since 2015, the platform has been engaged in a shared quality approach across the three EMBRC-FR marine stations: Banyuls-sur-Mer, Villefranche-sur-Mer, and Roscoff.
Services
To submit a project or for an initial contact, please fill out a “Contact Form” and send it to pf-genomer@sb-roscoff.fr.
Genomics Project Management
The platform staff provides:
- Project management, from the request reviewing to the primary data analysis.
- Library preparation and high-throughput sequencing (MiSeq – Illumina, MinION under development)
Available Applications
- Library preparation and sequencing on MiSeq-Illumina.
- Microbial genome sequencing.
- Amplicons.
- Ready-to-seq: sequencing of ready-to-sequence libraries.
Project Handling Process
- Review of the Contact Form and discussion with the user.
- Feasibility assessment by the Genomer team.
- Issuance of a CPG commitment form and a quotation once the project is clearly defined.
- Project launch upon receipt of signed documents (signed commitment form and purchase order).
- If the request cannot be handled (busy schedule, unavailable protocols, etc.), the platform may refer the project to another structure within the Biogenouest Genomics network.
Data Management
- Data are made available to the project leader.
- They are securely stored for two months after results are delivered.
- An annual activity report lists the projects (title) and their principal investigators (name).
____
The platform provides access to various instruments, sometimes requiring accreditation. Staff members provide user training to ensure autonomous and safe operation.
Examples of Equipment and Uses
- Qualitative and quantitative sample assessment (Bioanalyzer, Qubit, Labchip GXt, Nanoquant).
- Library preparation for MiSeq sequencing.
- Sample preparation for MinION sequencing.
Conditions of Use
- An operating procedure or user manual is provided for each instrument.
- Users may contact the team in case of difficulties.
- The platform guarantees proper instrument functioning provided that instructions are followed.
- Any damage resulting from improper use will be charged to the user’s unit or home institution.
Reservations for External Users
- Booking is done via EMBRC France.
Reservations and Access for Internal Users
- Equipment is booked through the GRR (Resource Management and Booking) platform.
- Booking is mandatory and must reflect actual usage time.
- In case of abusive booking, the platform reserves the right to adjust reserved slots and impose timeframes to allow other users access to the equipment.
