His project of two months at the Max Planck Institute in the department of Algal Development and Evolution aims, first to optimize haplotagging for brown algae, and second, to perform libraries from Ectocarpus populations to give more insight into the impact of hybridization on the speciation process. The project is part of his reseach project ISORESPECTO, funded by the Finistère department.

Haplotagging is one the most promising technology to produce long DNA fragments from short-read sequencing. Long DNA fragments are particularly useful as they allow to reconstruct haplotypes (i.e. a group of genes inherited together from one parent on one chromosome), and so facilitate the identification of introgressed genomic regions (i.e. spread of genes of one species into the gene complex of another as a result of hybridization).
