Alexander von Humboldt Foundation confers the Bessel award to Dr. Gurvan Michel

Dr. Gurvan Michel has received the certificate for the award of the Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Prize from the President of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Professor Dr. Hans-Christian Pape, at the annual Alexander von Humboldt Research Awards Winners Symposium held in Bamberg, Germany, from 28 to 31 March 2019.

Gurvan Michel, directeur de recherche CNRS à la Station Biologique de Roscoff, figurait parmi plus de soixante lauréats de toutes les disciplines académiques et de toutes les régions du monde, sélectionnés pour leur contribution majeure à la recherche internationale. Gurvan Michel a été mis à l’honneur pour son rôle pionnier dans l'exploration structurale et biochimique du métabolisme des polysaccharides d'algues. Le comité de sélection a également souligné ses contributions importantes à la compréhension de l'évolution des parois cellulaires des plantes et des algues. Gurvan Michel est actuellement accueilli dans l’équipe du Pr. Bruno Moerschbacher de l’Université de Münster où il étudie de nouvelles enzymes de modification pour l’utilisation biotechnologique des polysaccharides.

Dr. Gurvan Michel, who is a CNRS research director CNRS at the Station Biologique de Roscoff (CNRS / Sorbonne Université) was among more than sixty prize winners from all academic disciplines and from all parts of the world, recognized for their leading contribution to international research. Dr. Michel was recognized as a pioneer in the biochemical and structural exploration of the metabolism of algal polysaccharides. The selection committee has also highlighted his important contributions to the understanding of the evolution of plant and algal cell walls. Dr. Michel is currently hosted by Pr. Dr. Bruno Moerschbacher at the University of Münster and is working on new modifying enzymes for the biotechnological uses of polysaccharides.
