Océanomics : oceanic plankton diversity and resources

Introduction:
Océanomics est lauréat des projets Investissements d'Avenir
Paragraphs:

Laureate of the national “Investing for the Future” scheme, Oceanomics will provide for a database of ecological, morphological and genetic data compiled from thousands and thousands of plankton samples collected during the Tara Oceans expedition (2009-2012) and Tara Oceans Polar Circle expedition (2012-2013).

The data will serve to understand the nature and function of global plankton biodiversity and ultimately uncover some promising bioactive compounds for applications in pharmaceuticals or biofuels.

Oceanomics benefits from €7 M in funds over 8 years. It groups 18 partners, including 6 from the private sector (Fonds Tara, Altran, Veolia, Greentech, Soliance, French Foundation for Biodiversity Research).

  • The Roscoff Biological Station (CNRS-UPMC)
  • The Villefranche-sur-mer Oceanographic Observatory (CNRS-UPMC)
  • The Evry Génoscope and the Institute of Life Sciences Research and Technologies in Grenoble (Atomic Energy Commission)
  • The Genomic and Structural Information Laboratory in Marseille
  • The Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris
  • The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL, Heidelberg, Germany) and the University of Western Brittany.

The Oceanomics consortium draws on collaborations with public and private partners throughout the world.
