Assistant Engineer

I have worked as an Engineering Assistant at the Biological Research Station of Roscoff for the last 15 years. I have a strong research background in protein-seaweed polysaccharide interactions having now worked on several projects involving this thematic. I have overproduced, purified and characterised several bacterial enzymes which degrade polysaccharides including an agarase, an alginate lyase and a pectate lyase. Over the last few years I have been involved in the Cell Wall Imaging project that has been developed by Cécile Hervé. CBMs (Carbohydrate Binding Modules), which are often associated with polysaccharide degrading enzymes, can be used as tools to specifically recognise carbohydrate motifs in the cell wall. Using this immunohistochemical technique it is possible to localise specific polysaccharides in the seaweed cell wall. I characterized the first CBM in the lab, CBM from family 6 from the laminarinase C of Zobellia galactanivorans. I participated in the installation of the microcalorimeter in the laboratory and I adapted protocols for our protein analyses. In parallel to biochemistry, I have acquired competencies in polysaccharide extraction, production, purification and analyses of oligosaccharides.
