The Roscoff Culture Collection (RCC) maintains about 1500 strains of marine phytoplankton
with emphasis on picoplankton (in particular Prochlorococcus and Synechococcus), picoeucaryotes and coccolithophorids.

Get strains for free - ASSEMBLE EU Research Infrastructure - Open ended call

The Roscoff Culture Collection is part of the ASSEMBLE EU FP7 research infrastructure network which has been recently launched.

ASSEMBLE offers on-site and remote access for European research groups to conduct marine research projects.
Both the Roscoff Culture Collection and the CCAP in Oban are part of ASSEMBLE.

Under ASSEMBLE, you may write short proposals to obtain RCC strains (5 or more) free of charge (except shipment costs).

To be eligible, you must belong to a European (or from associated state, but not from France) laboratory (but not part of the ASSEMBLE network). 

For non-european, there is the possibility to collobarate with a european partner who will write the proposal.

Procedure

  • Read general conditions on ASSEMBLE web site
  • Fill an on-line ASSEMBLE Application
  • Also send a standard RCC Order form to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it indicating clearly that you are submitting an ASSEMBLE application
  • You should know about four weeks later whether or not your proposal has been accepted
  • Once the application is accepted, we will send you the strains.

New feature : Link to sequences

Now you can see sequences available for each strain by following the appropriate link on the strain description form.  
Over 1400 sequences have been tabulated (see table ).  Four types of sequences are shown :

  • GenBank sequences
  • Genome projects (NCBI web site)
  • Unpublished sequences that we are releasing and that can downloaded in FASTA format
  • Unpublished sequences that are not released
