Thesis committee

For each Marie Curie PhD fellow and within the first six months of his/her arrival, will be implemented an advisory thesis committee, composed of the thesis supervisor, his /her research department director, another SBR research department director and one external, transnational scientist chosen for his/her field of expertise.

The thesis committee will meet once a year with the Marie Curie fellow to check its progress.

At least 3 weeks before these meetings, the committee should receive a formal report summarizing the progress towards the thesis objectives, a list of the attended meetings/conferences, a list of the performed training activities, the research plans for the next 12 months as well as any specific request from the fellow, e.g., allowance for specific lab equipments or chemicals.

During the meetings with its thesis committee, the Marie Curie fellow will present his/her results and discuss the problems encountered, if any, then examine plans for the oncoming work. Whenever appropriate (and in any case 1 year before the end of the thesis), the thesis committee will discuss career opportunities with the doctoral candidate. Specific personal requests or scientific disagreements between the postgraduates and their PIs can be brought to the attention of the head of department and/or thesis committees. Unsolved disputes can then be taken care of by the ESTeam co-ordinator.
